Tribosonics joins Industry Advisory Board of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Training Centre

Tribosonics are delighted to announce that it has joined the AMRC Training Centre’s Industry Advisory Board.  The appointment of Mark Wallace to the Board strengthens the long-term partnership between Tribosonics and the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC Training Centre).

Mark Wallace, Tribosonics’ Chief Operating Officer, expressed:

“Our partnership with the AMRC Training Centre enables a core component of our Future Leaders Programme.  Joining the Industry Advisory Board represents an opportunity to work at a strategic level with the Training Centre and further the development of talent in the Sheffield City Region.”

Firstly, the Tribosonics’ Future Leaders Programme is a Manufacturing Apprenticeship scheme that grows and equips young talent in the Sheffield City Region for industrial leadership roles in; engineering, production, commercial and strategic functions.  The Future Leaders Programme commences with the formal practical element. An initial nine-month block delivered by experienced trainers at the AMRC Training Centre.  The formal academic aspect of the Programme, also delivered within the Training Centre, deepens Tribosonics’ Future Leaders’ theoretical knowledge and technical understanding.

Tribosonics’ CEO, Glenn Fletcher, explains:

“By promoting Manufacturing Apprenticeship Schemes within the region and beyond, Tribosonics believes the outcome of the training we deliver in conjunction with the AMRC Training Centre can have an impact much wider than that experienced directly by Tribosonics.”

Industry Leaders continue to meet remotely

The Industry Advisory Board has been able to continue meeting despite current restrictions by holding meetings online.  In the remote meeting held on Tuesday 9th June, the Training Centre outlined how staff and students alike have adapted remarkably to recent challenges. In addition, Anne Griggs, Head of Business Development and Contracts at the Training Centre, adds:

“Partnerships such as this are vital to ensuring that Apprentice training remains current and relevant. Therefore in this role, Mark plays an active part in ensuring the AMRC Training Centre curriculum intent is attuned to emerging needs.”

In addition, Tribosonics joins the board alongside local industry leaders including Boeing, Polypipe, Wavin, AESSEAL and Stanley Black & Decker.

Notes:

Tribosonics is an innovation-led scale-up located and forged in Sheffield. Its team of Engineers, Technologists and Entrepreneurs use unique sensing technologies to address challenges in tribological contacts. These include wear, friction and lubrication for an example.  Tribosonics designs, develops and deploys solutions to extract data and generate value within Transport, Power Generation and Manufacturing.  Therefore, our solutions take many forms, such as sensors, electronics and data platforms.

The AMRC Training Centre is part of the University of Sheffield AMRC. Thus, these are a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing research and design centres and supporting facilities within the University of Sheffield. Moreover, it operates from ten purpose-built centres on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham and the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Campus on Sheffield Business Park.

The AMRC Training Centre Industry Advisory Board’s function is to:

  1. Provide advice and guidance on the quality of provision delivered by the AMRC-TC.
  2. Give advice and guidance on the development of the AMRC-TC’s strategic action plan.
  3. Provide advice and guidance on the AMRC-TC curriculum offer so that it meets the needs of the manufacturing sector.
