Hazardous-area certified acoustic-emissions platform targets pressure relief devices and slow-rotating bearings, with one offshore operator targeting a 65% cut in PSV maintenance costs.

Tribosonics, the industrial sensing specialist behind the acoustoSENSE monitoring platform, has appointed Peter Collins to its Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director, as the company moves into the next phase of its international growth across the energy, petrochemical and process sectors.

acoustoSENSE is a battery-powered, wireless, always-on acoustic-emissions monitoring system that gives operators continuous, real-time visibility of critical assets such as pressure relief devices and slow-rotating bearings; detecting leaks, mechanical degradation and abnormal operation before they escalate into failures. The system is ATEX, IECEx, UL and INMETRO intrinsically-safe certified, supporting deployment in hazardous-area environments worldwide. One offshore operator using the technology is targeting a 65% reduction in pressure safety valve maintenance costs, alongside a reduction in lost product, lower emissions and fewer unplanned shutdowns.

Collins brings direct experience of the sector. He led Permasense, a provider of ultrasonic integrity-monitoring sensors for oil refiners, from an Imperial College London laboratory to global market leadership with sales in 27 countries, before its acquisition by Emerson. He has four exits to his name across roles as Chair, CEO, COO and CTO, including the sale of water-network sensing business Inflowmatix to Suez, and currently chairs methane-detection company Mirico, non-destructive-testing specialist Guided Ultrasonics and metal additive-manufacturing firm Wayland Additive. He holds a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics from Imperial College London and an MBA from INSEAD.
