Talk to us

We possess a number of years’ experience in the design, manufacture and installation of ultrasonic transducers for a wide range of applications. We have particular expertise in developing solutions for applications in which transducers are permanently installed.

Transducers

We are experienced in the design, manufacture and installation of ultrasonic transducers for a wide range of applications. We have particular expertise in developing solutions for applications where transducers are permanently installed.

Our deep understanding of the technology has allowed us to modularise and repackage transducer components to meet customer requirements – including continuous operation at extreme temperature and pressure, the usage of specified materials, or the capability to facilitate commercial roll-out.

Embedded v NDT

Embedded transducers (i.e. permanently installed) have very different requirements compared to ultrasonic NDT transducers:

NDT Transducers
Design for every application
Designed with a wear plate for longevity
Highly damped in the transducer casing to maximise bandwidth
Highly damped in the transducer casing to maximise bandwidth
Large size due to the design constraints
Embedded Transducers
Application specific
Do not experience any wear
Can be optimised for the application without the need for additional damping materials
Can be optimised for the application and achieve much higher temperature performance
Extremely compact and can be embedded into components

Air-coupled Ultrasonic Transducer

Air-coupled ultrasonic transducers are designed for coupling into air or gas for the purpose of measuring distance, flow, density, speed of sound and gas type.

In contrast to most commercially available air coupled ultrasonic transducers, Tribosonics’ transducers are embeddable and therefore suitable for environments requiring mechanical robustness, such as mechanical impact, high pressure or ingress protection.

Embedded Transducers

Designed for OEM and high-volume applications, these transducers are embedded into the component either during, or following, the manufacturing process. By building the component into a larger system we are able to transform both the component and the system into smart devices.

High Temperature Transducers

High Temperature Transducers have been uniquely designed to endure continuous operation at up to 450°C.

Low Cost Transducers

Our Low Cost Transducer technologies suit a wide range of customer requirements and can be re-packaged to suit specific needs. These transducers are well suited to high volume, highly integrated applications for enabling component digitisation.

Custom transducers

Our transducer technology can be modified to support a wide range of customer requirements, and can be adapted to perform in high-pressure and high-temperature environments. We also provide varied selection of custom connectors and cable lengths – as well as wireless capabilities upon request. Our transducer technologies can be supplied to meet ATEX Zone 0/1/2, UL Class 1 Div 1, Class 1 Div 2 certifications. UL File number available on request for existing transducers.

VapourView

The VapourView®, an award-winning pump monitoring system, was developed for HMD Sealless Pumps by Tribosonics.

VapourView® has been designed to identify bearing failure in sealless pump systems due to a build-up of gas within the containment shell of the pump by non-invasive monitoring of the fluid flow within the pump.

It is certified ATEX Zone 0 and Zone 1, as well as UL Class 1 Div 1 certification, VapourView® is highly suited for operation in petrochemical plants and on off-shore oil rigs.

Algorithm

Tribosonics has developed a suite of software tools for the control, acquisition, processing and modelling of ultrasonic signals. These tools include:

  • FPGA cores for control of ultrasonic signal chains and acquisition of raw ultrasonic data.
  • PC applications for control of ultrasonic equipment and acquisition of raw ultrasonic data.
  • Proprietary algorithms for automated processing of raw ultrasonic data for feature extraction.
  • Computational models for calculating Phased Array focal laws, ultrasonic FEA pre and post-processing, and modelling behaviour in layered systems.

Such software tools are used in Tribosonics’ packaged technology offerings but can be made available to parties interested in licensing our software in this area.
