Glenn Fletcher talks transformation at Tribosonics

Glenn Fletcher is no stranger to driving change. A PwC alumni and experienced C-suite operator in sectors including chemicals, engineering and manufacturing. Glenn has engineered several successful scale-up journeys in tech as a director and shareholder.

He brings a background in developing and commercialising IP to his new role as CEO of Tribosonics as the business looks to accelerate its growth.

Here Glenn shares Tribosonics’ scale-up strategy, the business’ redefined focus and his vision for the future.

Tribosonics solves challenges caused by friction, wear and lubrication for some of the world’s leading companies. Now, we’re driving the momentum of our game-changing sensing technology and data expertise. This will build what started as a Sheffield start-up into a global scale-up.

This means not only driving transformation for our customers, but also within the business itself. Remapping our approach, sharpening our focus, and looking to the future.

Historically, Tribosonics has been an R&D engineering consultancy. As a company that is at the cutting-edge of industry 4.0 and IoT, our new approach is centred around digital transformation. We’re developing our innovation pipeline to not only solve tribological issues for businesses but support our data-driven proposition. This will be the ‘sensing-as-a-service’ delivery model.

To add value where it counts and fuel this digitalisation, we’ve really had to look at categorising our audience. When it comes to tribological contact, any business that relies on rotating equipment or suffers from lubrication issues could benefit from applying sensing technology.

So we’ve narrowed our focus to industrial sectors where there is potential for the greatest traction. Such as manufacturing, energy, and transport. These have been selected on the basis of technological overlap and the drive for change within each sector. Therefore, it’s in these industries that we look to collaborate with forward-thinking blue chips to share respective domain expertise. As a result, we will improve performance and deliver long-term reductions in operating costs.

Value in Partnerships

Of course, the power of these partnerships drives our vision for the future. For many businesses, there’s a significant gap between buying new technology, and fully integrating technology into processes. Thus, partnerships are an essential way of driving transformation from the outside, in; from the top, down. Working together, we can provide that technological perspective, and demonstrate how our IP operates within our customers’ product ecosystems to develop an end-to-end solution creating significant downstream value.

Finally, the future is bright for Tribosonics. Our challenger mindset, innovative technology stack, and expert team of engineers and technologists are helping to blaze a trail in ultrasonic measurement. The next step? Unlocking the potential to save the 1.4% of GDP, 8.7% of total energy, and 3140 Mt of CO2 emissions that are lost to tribological contact.
